Molyvos – a Greek island experience.

In Molyvos you get 2 for 1. I’m not talking about any sales promotion. It’s about the village divided into “Molyvos by the harbour” and “Molivos by the mountain”. It feels like two different places located on walking distance and with their own charm.

By the harbor you find traditional Greek fishing boats and restaurants by the waterfront. It feels natural to go here for a fish meal.

From the harbor you have a lovely view towards Molyvos by the mountain. The houses are climbing up the hill and on the top is Kastro, the fortress, lighted up during the evenings.

It seems to be some kind of latin trend here in the village. Several bars are playing latin influenced music. Many of the stone houses have colorful wood extensions which reminds me of La Boca in Buenos Aires.

The dinner schedule has been adjusted to the tourists and is rather early. Most people go out around 7-8 pm. Most frequent visitors, based on the language I have heard, are coming from The Netherlands, Denmark and UK. The average age is a bit higher and it’s not a place for families with small kids or disabled persons because of the stony streets and height difference.

I’m staying in a Pension with the long name “The Schoolmistress With the Golden Eyes”. Good and central location in the village (mountain part) and nice owners. From the balconies you have a marvellous view over the sea.
The Schoolmistress With the Golden Eyes”.

Places I have tried so far and all of them are good:

Faros Restaurant – in the harbour (dinner)
Sanzibal Restaurant – in the village (dinner)
TRIAINA (Greek spelling) by the beach (lunch)
Bazaar restaurant and bar – close to harbour, on the road. Have not tried the food, only coffee and drink.
Mada (Greek spelling is MANTA) music bar (latin, jazz and sometimes live music)
Sousouro bouzoukia – in the harbour. Closed when I passed by. Maybe I was too early or it has closed for the season.
