Blues in Molyvos and city life in Mytilene

Time has come to leave the charming little village Molyvos or Mithimna. It feels a bit sentimental. Like a blues. Already on Saturday night I got the blues but in terms of music. Giannis (vocal and guitar) and Ignatis (guitar) were the two blues men who performed at MANTA music bar in Molyvos. One great voice and two excellent guitar players and that’s it. The blues hits you. Enjoy the music despite the dark quality.
Dags att lämna charmiga Molyvos och det känns lite sentimentalt. Som en blues. Redan på lördag kvällen fick jag blueskänsla, men i form av musik. Giannis (sang och gitarr) och Ignatis (gitarr) är två blueskillar som uppträdde på MANTA music bar i Molyvos. En fantastisk röst och två utmärkta gitarrister och blueskänslan slår till. Njut bortsett den mörka filmkvaliteten. 

Mytilene town is a bustling city with people, shopping streets, cars and motorbikes everywhere. You easily forget such things after spending some days in a quiet, slow motion environment. More than 30.000 people are living here. Lot of university students and many seem to spend their days at some of the cafés by the harbour.
Mytilini stad är en hektisk upplevelse med en massa folk, shoppinggator, bilar och mopeder. Sånt som är lätt att glömma efter några dagar i en lugn, slow motion miljö. Mer än 30.000 människor bor här. Många studerar på universitetet och en hel del av studenterna verkar tillbringa dagen på något av caféerna vid hamnen.

 Lesvos’ most well known person i the female ancient Greek poet Sappho (around 600 BC).  She was lesbian and the name of the island gave name to the lesbians. Her influence can be seen in the many women’s cooperative for local products, restaurants and small hotels. The birthplace of Sappho is Eressoun and international festivals for lesbians are arranged there every year.
Lesvos mest kända person är den kvinnliga poeten Sappho (ca 600 f.Kr). Hon var lesbisk och öns namn har i sin tur genererat begreppet lesbiska. Hennes påverkan i modern tid kan man se i de många kvinnliga kooperativen som säljer lokala produkter, driver restaurang och små hotell. Sappho hemort är Eressoun och där ordnas bl.a. en internationell festival för lesbiska. 

Many people come to Lesvos for retreat and yoga courses. Maybe a quick-fix to a new life will be a stay at Hotel “New Life” in Mytilini.
Många kommer till ön för yoga-kurser och retreat. Det kanske räcker med att bo på ”New Life” i Mytilini ifall man vill ha en quick-fix till ett nytt liv. 




 

Lesvos is located on a few kilometres from the Turkish border. There are frequent trips between Mytilini and Dikili. Most of them a bit bigger than this fishing boat.
Ligger endast ett fåtal kilometer från Turkiet. Det går båtar mellan Mytilini och Dikili. De flest är nog lite större än denna fiskebåt.
