It’s all about shoes!

Eurovision Song Contest is a contest about music and expressions. Shoes can show expression. Doesn't matter whether it’s on the red carpet, on the stage or somewhere else. This is a small tribute to Eurovision-fans and shoe-lowers.

Eurovision Song Contest handlar om musik och att uttrycka sig. Skor kan vara ett av många sätt att uttrycka sig på. Spelar ingen roll om det är på röda mattan, på scenen eller någon annanstans. Här är en liten hyllning till Eurovisionsfantaster och skoälskare.

Ölprovning i Düsseldorf

Det är altbier som gäller i Düsseldorf. Många väljer ställe utifrån sin favoritöl. Öl är en konstart som ligger långt ifrån de stora bryggeriernas massproduktion. Vi gjorde ett studiebesök på ett relativt nyöppnat mikrobryggeri som heter Kürzer Brauerei. Där vill man behålla den gamla traditionen men samtidigt ta den vidare in i modern tid.
It is all about beer in Düsseldorf. And beer means 'altbier'. Patrick at the Kürzer Brauerei says that they want to develop the tradition of producing beer and take to the next generation.
 

Även Kürzer Brauerei påverkas av Eurovisionshysterin och under finalveckan kommer man att visa semifinalerna och finalen på storbilds-TV.
The Eurovision feeling can also be found in a brauerei. Kürzer will have a big screen TV and show the semifinals and the final.

Packningsbestyr inför Eurovision Song Contest

Att packa inför två veckor i Eurovision-världen är inte det lättaste. Egentligen finns det inga begränsningar på hur mycket man vill ta med sig. Förutom vikten på planet förstås. För att ni ska förstå hur komplicerat det är och framför allt VAD man måste ha med sig, så har jag gjort en liten dokumentation tillsammans med Roger - min ’partner in Eurovision-crime’.

Some of my colleagues have already arrived in Düsseldorf meanwhile I’m facing a trauma at home, trying to pack my stuff and prepare for two weeks in the Eurovision bubble. I tell you – it is NOT EASY! To give you an idea about how complicated it is and what to bring, I have done a small documentation for you.

Interview snippets with ESC 2011 artists

Here is a mini-review of some interviews made during Eurovision In Concert which was held in Amsterdam 9th April. Here is a presentation of Slovenia, Switzerland and Turkey. More to come later.
Här kommer några axplock från tre av artistintervjuerna som gjordes i samband med Eurovision In Concert i Amsterdam. Det är Slovenien, Schweiz och Turkiet. Flera axplock kommer inom kort.
 

Maja Keuc, Slovenia: Semifinal 2 with the song “No One”:
”No One” was originally called ”Vaniljia” in Slovenian language but Maja prefers to sing her song in English. This is a dramatic song which requires a strong voice, which Maja has. I’m impressed when I hear that she has never taken a singing lesson in her life. In Düsseldorf Maja look forward to meet her teenage idols - Blue from UK.
- ”It feels unreal to participate in the same contest as my idols from my youth”.

”No One” är en kraftfull, dramatisk låt som kräver en stor röst och jag blir smått förundrad när Maja berättar att hon inte tagit en enda sånglektion tillsvidare i sitt liv.
Inför Düsseldorf ser Maja fram emot att träffa Storbritanniens Blue som hon beundrade stort när hon var yngre. Hon berättar att det känns näst intill overkligt att vara i samma tävling som sina idoler.

Anna Rossinelli, Switzerland: Semifinal 1 with the song ”In Love For A While”
Anna told that she recently met with Lys Assia who was the first winner of ESC 1956. The advice she got was to have fun during the weeks in Düsseldorf. Anna will have the band-colleagues from her trio Anne Claire with her in Germany. Aretha Franklin and James Brown are two of her idols and among the competing artists in Düsseldorf she mentions Italian Raphael Gualazzi as one of her favorites.

Anna berättar att hon nyligen har träffat Lys Assia som vann den första ESC 1956 och det viktigaste rådet var att ha kul under tävlingen. I Düsseldorf har hon med sig bandkollegerna från sin trio Anne Claire. Bland hennes idoler finns Aretha Franklin och James Brown och i Düsseldorf är Italiens Raphael Gualazzi en av favoriterna.

Yüksek Sadakat, Turkiet: Semifinal 1 with the låten ”Live It Up”
Many Turkish rock bands know each other. When Yüksek Sadakat got the proposal to participate in ESC they first checked it up with their friends in maNga, last year’s representative who ended second. Eurovision is a big thing in Turkey and the country has been very successful during the last 10 years including Sertab’s victory 2003. Yüksek Sadakat goal is the continue to trend with high scores.

Många av rockbanden i Turkiet känner varandra. När Yüksek Sadakat fick frågan om att medverka i ESC kollade de först vilka erfarenheter rockkollegerna och kompisarna i maNga hade från fjolårets tävling. maNga kom som bekant tvåa.  I Turkiet är Eurovision Song Contest en stor nationell angelägenhet och Yüksek Sadakat hoppas kunna nå en topplacering även i år. De senaste 10 år kan landet stoltsera med att flertal topp-5-placeringar och givetvis Sertab’s vinst 2003.

Kronoby - a high ranking village in music

My home village Kronoby, located at the west-coast of the Swedish-speaking part of Finland, is represented in Swedish Idol and Finnish Eurovision Song Contest. I have to say I'm a bit proud. After all there are only around 6000 inhabitants living in Kronoby!

And many of us moved.... including myself.

I found it a bit interesting that such a small village is able to produce successful artists year after year. Elin Blom is improving week by week in this year's Swedish Idol. Despite she is only 16 years she has already prepresented Finland in Junior MGP 2007. In the local Finnish ESC 2010 she was in the final with her group Sister Twister.

Father McKenzie is a new group and they managed to get one of the three web wild cards in the Finnish Eurovision Song Contest 2011. The composer (and singer) of the song "Good Enough", is Tobias Granbacka from Kronoby. The other members, Emil Johansson (Bass/Vocals), Simon Larsson (Drums/Vocals) and Jochum Juslin, are partly from Sweden, partly from Åland in Finland.

In addition to the above "hot shots" we should not forget Sonja Biskop who also was participating in this year's web wild card contest in Finland. She is well experienced and has competed in the Finnish ESC final year 2004 with the song "Should I run, Should I hide".

I wish the best of luck to Elin Blom in Idol and Father McKenzie in ESC.
