Eurovision 2015: Semifinal 1 - vem ska bort?

 

Temperaturen stiger och är det dags för första semifinalen. För 6 av kvällens tävlande tar Eurovisionsäventyret slut. 10 länder får en ny chans på lördag. Åsikterna om vilka dessa är varierar ungefär lika mycket som antalet fans här i Wien. 

Och nog är det svårtippat. Under veckans gång har jag ändrat åsikt om många låtar. En sådan är Armenien som jag absolut trodde skulle åka ut men som har vuxit markant.

Min gissning är att Moldavien, Finland, Serbien, Ungern, Rumänien och Georgien får packa sina resväskor. Jag garderar mig med Makedonien och Nederländerna som också kan vara i farozonen.

Stort beröm och 12 poäng går till Conchita, fjolårets vinnare, som jobbar stenhårt och finns med i alla möjliga sammanhang. Inte nog med att han sjunger fantastiskt och är en hejare på att gå i stilettklackar, så är han rapp och rolig i dialogen. Det blev vi varse häromkvällen då han dök upp på Euro Café som är fansens mötesplats.

Eurovision 2015 with a touch of Sibelius and Haydn

Vienna is for sure one of the most music-inspired capitals in the world. The number of concerts are countless. There are many "musts" and it is necessary to prioritize. 

One of my most important 'musts' was Musikverein - the famous venue where the new year's concert is held and broadcasted every year with the Wiener Philharmonic orchestra. Watching the program has been an excellent start of the new year ever since I was a child. Finally I got the possibility attend a concert in real life. Thanks to Eurovision and the Vienna Tourist Board. 



One thing I learnt is that The Wiener Symphonic and the Wiener Philharmonic are two different orchestras but both are performing i Musikverein and both are extremly professional. We were listening to the Symphonic which was conducted by Estonian Olari Elts. The concert included Jean Sibelius and Joseph Haydn. Sol Gabette impressed us with her cello in the Concerto for Violoncello in C-major.

Life Ball 2015: Fighting aids and celebrating life

Vienna is not only the host city of Eurovision Song Contest 2015. Vienna is also hosting the biggest charity event in Europe - The Life Ball. The 23rd edition of this glamorous and important event was held 16th May 2015.

The theme of the year was GOLD VER SACRUM with refrences to ancient Rome. I assume that there are no golden shoes, tights or accessories to be found in any shop in Vienna after this weekend.

After the red carpet the Life Ball party was held inside the Vienna Rathaus for 3700 guests who could afford, are were lucky, to get a ticket.

Eurovision 2015: Interview with the Swedish hero, Måns Zelmerlöw

One of the most sought after artists this year is Måns Zelmerlöw, representing Sweden. Many of the fans and the betting lists predict him as a winner. Despite the result, he will be a hero anyhow for the kids in Africa, which he supports via his charity foundation.

Eurovision 2015: Crying at the Volksoper with La Bohème

We are following the message of Eurovision 2015 - Building Bridges. One night we went to see "La Bohème", one of Giacomo Puccini's most famous operas. Can you imagin - we found a bridge between year 2015 back into 1896. The other bridge went from Stadthalle to Volksoper and the third one connected Eurovision-music with opera.

There are many similarities between the music styles: drama, love, jealousy and in opera - death. Somebody has to die in the end and in La Bohème it is Mimi. But I heard she was alive the next day and could perform again.



Vi har fullt upp med att hitta broar enligt årets tema. Nu är i alla fall bron mellan opera och schlager funnen. Häromkvällen var Roger och jag på Volksoper – det störst av operahusen i Wien med ca 1300 platser. Vi fick en smäktande, dramatisk version av Puccinis "La Bohème" på tyska. Precis som en eurovisionslåt ska vara. Vi har också hittat bron mellan nutid och dåtid. "La Bohème" skrevs 1896 men år 2015 är livet fortfarande fullt av kärlek, svartsjuka, drama och död.
